2016 Fish Shelter Build
In the last year of the five year DEQ permit to install fish shelters in the lower Elk River Chain of Lakes, volunteers came together on Friday June 17 and completed construction of a record number of ten hardwood crates in what is starting out as a very strong final push to complete installation at the remaining sites on Lake Bellaire and Torch Lake. Previously, volunteers had been able to construct as many as six crates in a single morning of work. The crates will now be filled with brush and stones for ballast and be paired with a slab wood tree shelter at each of the remaining permitted sites.
