Star Buoy Program
For the last ten years Three Lakes has promoted the accurate placement of mooring buoys carrying a black 5-pointed star at the 100-foot distance from shoreline, dock, or raft to serve as both a temporary mooring and an aid to navigation. A key provision of the Michigan Marine Safety Act states; “watercraft operators must not exceed a dead-slow, no-wake speed within 100 feet of a shoreline or dock or raft” and the buoy indicates that the critical distance has been measured. Buoys can be purchased at Torch River Hardware.�
